Update...

So Quin had his Dr. apt today - indeed it is Trigger Thumb, and he is scheduled to have surgery Jan. 6th :( The doc said it's only a simple 1/2 hour surgery, but it's still scary to think that he is going to have to go under!!! And chances are good that this could occur in his other thumb. Keep him in your prayers and we'll keep ya updated.

So sad...

So the bad luck of our Florida trip decided to follow us home and attack Quin as well... First it started off with a stomach virus - he had diarrhea so bad for 2 weeks that it ate his butt raw! I would just let him sit in the kitchen sink in an oatmeal bath and watch Thomas. He didn't want to move! He also stopped eating. We ended up taking him in to the doctor where had had to have blood drawn - mommy had to leave the room while daddy held him :( Thankfully though he was hydrated enough that we didn't have to admit him. But once we got him home it took a turn for the worse - he started to throw up! Then the next day he started coming down with a cold - and he got pink eye! Talk about helpless! After we got a prescription called in and got the pink eye under control he started getting a little better. He finally started to eat again and slowly was on the path to recovery. But it doesn't end there... He's finally over the stomach bug thankfully - and his pink eye is all gone, and his cold didn't get to bad. BUT, last week he kept coming up to me with his hand held out and whining. Looking at his thumb I though oh gross - he's double jointed in his bottom knuckle - didn't think any more of it. But this weekend it kept bothering him and upon further inspection we noticed that his top knuckle was bent - and we couldn't straighten it! I was already at my parents so I went ahead and took him into after hours at Tanner Clinic. The doc checked him out and sent us to x-ray. Thankfully nothing was broken, but he couldn't quite figure it out so he was going to refer us to Primaries to a specialist. He was sent home with a splint on his thumb and was told to leave it on until we could see a specialist. Well that night I was re wrapping it after his bath and heard and felt a loud pop! Gross! But it was straight! So I splinted it straight and put him to bed. Well the next day we took it off for a bath. Went to put it back on and it was bent again. The doctor called Monday to check on him and concluded that it is "Trigger Finger" and that it is something that the orthopedic surgeon at tanner could treat with a "simple" surgery! So now we have an appointment on Thursday to see what exactly is going to happen from here. SO, needless to say, we are eager to get this year over with and have our healthy boy back, and break the bad luck streak we've had for the last month! We'll give ya an update as soon as we know whats going to happen. We hope everyone else is well though and are looking forward to seeing everyone over the holidays!

Other than ........ Being treated like terrorists at the airport, broken down airplanes, 6 hour layovers, rental car reservations that aren't there, 50 degree highs and 32 degree lows in Florida, getting lost everywhere, Candice being sick, Me getting sick and yacking 3 times, me getting hiccups for 48 hours straight (No joke), the money making machine that is Disney, Me running a Toll Booth and probably getting a $100 fine or warrant for my arrest, not qualifying to sit through a Time Share presentation to score discount tickets at the Hilton Grand our resort, it being to cold to enjoy the beach, or the awesome pools at the resort, getting lost again, rides breaking down at the parks, being told that we can have a late check-out, and then being told there are no late check-outs, it being 80 degrees on the day we leave, no Air Conditioning on the flight home.........Florida was ok.

If you are feeling down, hit play

Somedays, when you're just feeling down, a good laugh can always cheer you up. Sunday wasn't the best of days for me as I handled a gnarly fatal accident up Echo Canyon. I found this on my phone and I figured I would share it with everyone as it somehow cheered me up. If you're morbidly curious about the crash here is a link. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=4644684

So, guess what....

Well if you haven't heard the news, Quin is gonna be a big brother! According to the doctor, even thought it's still early to tell, there's a good chance he's gonna have a sister! Had an appointment today, and all is well. We are due May 3rd, 2009! Guess we are going to have to finish that basement now...

Don't Bug Me While I'm Watching Curious George

So our little dude is growing up. We know not to bug him when he is in trance mode watching George. Quin's vocabulary includes Ball (his favorite word), Apple, please, thank you, NO!, ma ma, da da, Sarge (Its really seege), cheese, o's (Cheerios), Shoes, Juice, Cookie (Cookie includes chips, crackers, and any treat). He is also now Mr. Train Freak. He knows where all the trains are and he definitely lets us know (choo choo! choo choo!) The train phase has begun. We have to thank Carrie for the Thomas the Tank Blanket that we broke out for Quin about a month ago after he learned how to spot the trains.

Yet another Trip To the Zoo

Couldn't get enough of the slide...that he was afraid of at first

Wasn't quit sure what to make of the Carousel

Leaving the train behind and Quin's way of quiet protesting

So we have to get all we can out of our yearly pass to the Zoo. We went last week and the weather was perfect. We love living in Morgan. We left for the zoo at 8:30 in the morning on a Tuesday. We took the quicker scenic route through East Canyon. Not only were we able to see the changing leaves, but we passed a whopping 6 cars on the way to the Zoo. Not bad for leaving during the morning commute. Any hoo, enjoy the zoo. . . . in all its glory.

Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde

So as Quin grows and learns and discovers new things throughout the day, we just don't know who we will be facing. He can be Mr. Curious and fun, or he can be Mr. Terror and grief. You can decide for yourself who he is in the video.

Two Thumbs Up

Saw the new Batman movie.. Me and Candice definitely recommend seeing it.

Week in Bear Lake

So it was time for another famous Candice's Family Reuion. Candice's Dad's side holds a big week long family reunion up at Bear Lake every other year. This would be Quin's first experience at the reunion. We had a pretty sweet setup with our own 1 bedroom condo with kitchen. We had fun in the sun, at the lake, on the golf courses, at the pool, etc. Quin loved the beach, sand, water, and pool a little too much. He did not want to leave either of those and he made sure he let us know. It was a fun week to get away from any stress and worries.

Saturday July 26 Evening Fun On The Job

The quiet calm of a beautiful Evanston night was damaged this past Saturday night as shots rang out in an apartment building. Witnesses said that an Asian male driving a white Audi A4 with Utah plates fired his silver handgun four times into a complex in what was described as a drive-by. There were two other vehicles allegedly involved, a green Suburban, and a black pick-up truck. After the gangland crime, the white Audi fled west into Utah, which would prove to be one of their biggest mistakes as there would soon be three Killer Bees awaiting their arrival.

In the meantime, Jeff was arriving on a fatal rollover of a drunk male near Echo junction. Niel and I were responding as well. Upon Jeff's arrival, it was determined that the crash was a county call and they had sufficient help. When dispatch put out the ATL for the drive by suspects, Niel and I diverted to cast our net. I remained stationary at milepost 163 for containment while Niel continued to the junction. Within a minute, I noticed a white Audi pass me traveling westbound. I got behind said Audi and verified that the plate matched the partial plate given out by witnesses. Niel, giddy as a school boy, turned his police interceptor around and gave it all the gas he could muster. In a feeble, "Who? Me?" attempt to blend in, the Audi quickly moved to the right lane and slowed to 10 - 15 mph under the posted speed limit. I stayed closely behind him (while laughing maniacally). Down the road, like Great White sharks lurking through seal infested waters, Deputy Justin Hemingway and State park officer Joe Donnell were lying in wait. Once they were behind me and Niel had caught up, a felony stop was made just west of the Wanship structure. Both occupants were pulled out at the point of Glocks, shotguns and a long rifle. While being placed in Niel's car, the Asian male driver casually proclaimed, "You've got the wrong guy." Riiiiiiighhht.

After the vehicle was cleared, Jeff arrived and the search was on. Jeff found a small baggy of meth in the ashtray behind the gear shifter. Niel found an access to the void underneath and behind the car stereo. In that void was a silver Taurus 9 mm handgun with an eight round mag. There were four hollow point rounds still in the mag, the other four rounds being lodged in an apartment building in Evanston. Next to the gun was an 'Altoids" tin with some tight buds of marijuana. Suddenly, the female passenger became concerned about her two children at home and needed to make sure they were okay. After all, she didn't know what was going on and had just gone to Evanston to "visit friends". Blah blah blee blee.

The perp is a five and half foot, buck 25 Southeast Asian gangbanger who is "loosely affiliated" with Kmer Rouge, TOP (tiny oriental posse) and CP1 (Campodian Pride). The female is his wife who "just wanted to get home to her kids". A day late and a dollar short in my humble opinion.

Although I will take credit on paper for the stop/incident, Jeff and Niel should receive as much or more recognition for their role. Also, thanks to Deputy Justin Hemingway and State Parky Joe Donnell. It was fun to remove these spoiled eggs before they could actually hit a target. See ya in 20, tiny Asian gangster! Family Pics

The Ekbergs and Dents got together for the 4th of July and had a little BBQ fun at Mom and Dad's House. A little Badminton, B-ball, food, and experimental self timers on our cameras completed the fun. There was an unfortunate incident involving Winnie, the grass, and Dan diving on the grass. We apologize to Dan. Bonus pics include our family picture for the year and Quins first haircut ever (It was time to get rid of his Mr. Burns style after a year and 6 months without a haircut). Cortney and Devin win the prize for best funny face.

Mini Kitchen Remodel

We decided to join in the fun in changing up the kitchen. Although it wasn't a major operation, it did keep us out of the kitchen for a day. We got some cool wood(like) floors. For the price, I'd have to say it looks pretty good. Oh yeah, little dude can drop all the bar stools he wants on it and it won't scratch. The dogs, can also run around on it no problem. I believe the wood was called walnut something or other. We thank Candice's mom for our cool new floor.

Trip to the Zoo

We decided to go to the zoo today. Grandma and Grandpa Ekberg joined our adventure. We had to keep the little dude leashed although that at times didn't work. I believe Quin's favorites included the Leopard, the Meerkats, the cougars, the giraffes, and the giant black marble ball on water. We splurged and got the family year pass, so this won't be our last trip to the zoo.

Babysitting The Little Dude

So Candice had her first night of Bonko or whatever that is so I got to be entertained by the little dude. We've been teaching him some mad hoop skills so enjoy. He's as independent as they come.

This is bonus footage of our little dude figuring out the slide at the park all by himself.

$1500 Impulse Buy

Well we were not planning on doing this for a while, but we figured it was a pretty good deal. The previous owners left the east side of our backyard a complete disaster area. They had a dog kennel, and there wasn't alot we could do with it. We talked about putting in a porch/basketball court area but not for a while because of how expensive it would be. Well a dude called us up and said he would do the whole thing for $1500 bucks. Before I knew it, they were pouring and we were writing a check. It should be fun and now we don't have to worry about that part of the yard. Quin sure liked the big cement truck and them pouring the cement. So if you need cement for cheap, we can give you a referral. (I still think it was some shady black market business, but at least we have our cement).

Summertime Rats

Its finally warmed up, so Candice kept the tradition alive by making the dogs our little rats. Poor Sarge got his ear nipped and almost bled out but at least he's easy to clean now. They went from panting to death to shivering little rodents. We now just have to find a way to keep them out of the red dirt we have up here.
